Ommmmm Mediation

This week is CRCT testing. I won't speak my opinion of it here, but let's just say that the students definitely need a mind break. We learned about the art of creating Zentangles and how they help to clarify your mind. The students created their baselines and forms with a thicker sharpie and then began to fill them in with the thinner sharpies. They are trying to create a structured pattern in each section. There is something gratifying about filling in each area. Comments overhead:

"Why is the room so quiet?"
"I have a book about this at home. My aunt is an artist and gave me the book!"
"Can we do this next week?"

I also heard a precious child say "This is a nightmare!"... We can't please them all.

Zentangles

The 8th graders worked for days on the zentangles... they are wonderful, peaceful drawings that let your mind relax. The students begged to work on them for almost an entire week. They all were focused on what they were creating.
