Frida Kahlo inspired...

The 8th graders studied Frida Kahlo and her very interesting life. She is a phenomenal artist from Mexico, focusing mainly on self-portraits that depict much about her life, which included being married to Diego Rivera (a famous muralist) and also included being in a tragic bus wreck. The students studied the specific facial proportions and combined that with their shading techniques.

Skull Drawing

The 8th graders, in keeping with the seasonal spirit, are practicing drawing the facial proportions using the skull. The above video is an excellent demonstration of our lesson.

Robert Arneson Portraits

The 8th graders worked on their clay portrait sculptures over a month ago. They finally air dried and went in the kiln. (We only had two not make it... sorry L and C! You were troopers and hopefully we will remake them. You see, ceramics explode in the kiln if there is any moisture or air bubbles.) The students are glazing these this week.
