Graffiti!

As of right now, the 8th graders are working on graffiti. We watched videos and demonstrations, looked at examples, and handouts, and are now in the process of drawing/writing our names! More images to come... 

What's Your Name??

The 6th grade students just completed their one point perspective name drawings. This was a great way for them to practice using what they have learned about perspective drawing before they get to their final room drawings. Today, they will start taking drawing notes on how to draw rooms in perspective. 

'I'm Seeing Double!"

The sixth graders have been studying the left and right sides of the brain to learn more about how things work. They recently folded a piece of paper in half, wrote their names in cursive (or the best that they could do... they don't learn that anymore, you know?!), and then traced it on the other side. They had to create a monster out of their names. The results, as usual, were fantastic.

Mirror Image Name Aliens

At the beginning of the year, we really study the left and right brain way of thinking. I came across another art blog that had this lesson plan on it. Should I ever find it again, I will post the website and give credit where credit is due!


       

The students folded a piece of paper in half long-ways. They then wrote their name in cursive (Did you know that many students cannot write in cursive? It is apparently not taught like it was when "I was growing up").  They had to write their name backwards so that it made a mirror image. This worked the right side of the brain. We discussed colors and patterns as well as features such as wings and horns. They created their aliens from there.
