Nine Squares

Precious middle schoolers are always learning about themselves (aren't we all...). I found this lesson online at www.artroomonline.com. The image below is also from her site. I had the 8th grade students read over a packet that asked them to choose three abstract (personality) images, three physical traits, and three things that they liked. They needed to incorporate watercolor, collage, oil pastel, crayons, and/or colored pencils. We also added black and silver sharpie, acrylic paint, and lots more! The results were impressive. They were then asked to lay out their nine (or less for those who work very carefully and neatly!) squares in any fashion that they chose for display purposes. Some strung theirs together, others added aluminum foil, some chose black poster board, white poster board, or cardboard. The results were interesting!
