Shurley it's Clay!

Our fabulous Claire Shurley, the student teacher/visiting artist, is working with our 7th grade students on their clay/ceramic masks. She's amazing... they love her... she's talented. What a great person to have here at JMS! Here are some in progress pieces (action shots, if you will!):

 

The Big City!

Seventh graders have been taking two point perspective notes for DAYS now. They are finally getting to put into practice all that they have learned. They are using handouts as well as their notes to complete their cityscapes. I will give them a few more days to add detail. These are in progress... 

Some are accurate and others, well, not so much, but either way, they are trying and being creative! That's what it's all about. 

 

Dreaming of the Water....

                                      

The most perfectly fabulous 6th grade students have been learning how to appropriately use watercolor. We worked for a full hour on watercolor techniques, practicing various methods such as wet on wet, wet on dry, dry brush, salt, masking, etc. They also have been studying the Canadian artist, Emily Carr, They drew trees using pencils and sharpies and then are going to use their new skills to complete the trees with watercolor.
