Cardbord Wonders: A Collaborative Museum Project

Last year, we had an amazing student teacher, Miss Keara Connor, who now lives out in California... teaching design to little folks. I came across this video that she took of our JMS student work. She literally paid for a UHaul and carried all of the bits and pieces to the Lyndon House Museum in Athens, Georgia, and then carefully put the pieces together. This was a miniature museum project. Wow to the Museum Project!

It is finished... the students packed up the Museum Project (with Miss Connor... this was her thing). Miss Connor hauled it all to Athens to the Lyndon House. She worked ALL DAY setting this thing up. The results were fantastic. The students learned so much about furniture design and structure, about museums, museum models, collaboration, thinking, and simply researching. They learned a lot, as did we. Fine Arts Night!

JMS will have their Fine Arts Night on Tuesday, April 29th from 6-8:00. The Drama Club will perform as well as the Chorus and Band. The Craft Club will have work displayed. The Visual Arts department will also have art on display in the Media Center (as well as a half price book sale) and also down the hallways. Miss Connor's Museum Projects will be on display in the Chorus and Art rooms. Please come out and support the arts. 

Also, Miss Connor will have the sixth grade students' museums on display at the Lyndon House (they have a facebook page, but I cannot access the address here at school!) in Athens, GA on Thursday, May the 8th from 6-8:00. The students have worked hard for WEEKS with this visiting artist. Come out and see their work. This is a project solely created and produced by the students and Miss Connor! 

See a glimpse into...

The museum world... it's fascinating and exciting. The students are really into this. They are creating their own 5x5' museums on any topic that they choose. They have been broken down into groups of 5-6 students where they each have roles. They created miniature museum models at first and now are building their floors and walls to present their actual museums. Some are interactive and others are not, but the students are all clearly brainstorming, thinking, problem-solving, and challenging themselves!
