So far, during the first three weeks of school, we have done many important things for learning the basics of art. They all have created portfolios (one of the standards, but also a great way to keep up with 200+ students' artwork). Some of the students did value scales on those, and some did the value scales in their sketchbooks (see previous post). The students have practiced drawing contour drawings, have practiced drawing upside down (the picture, not the children!), and have done some other drawing warm up types of exercises. The 8th graders have been working on their "Nine Square Personality" project. Those have been very interesting. We're finishing up those now. They will present them next week along with their reflection (a writing) from the project.
