The sixth graders looked at Ukranian reverse glass painting. We created collages using magazines (three of them), and then the students chose their favorite one. They put a piece of overhead transparency on top of it, taped it, and traced it with fine point (not ultra) sharpies. They then used acrylic paint to paint the details from the back. For instance, on painting a cat, one child painted the white whiskers and details, the eyes, let that dry, and then painted the orange/brown... It really made these 11-12 year old students think before they painted. They did a phenomenal job.
